Tone Is More Than Pitch — Voice Types
Tonal pronunciation isn’t just about pitch height — it’s also about how your voice behaves.
In the ToneBox, you can set the voice type to help train:
normal
– modal voice (standard, open)stiff
– tight throat or pressed (e.g. Thai high tone)creaky
– crackly/glottalised (e.g. Vietnamese 'ngã', Burmese checked tones)
Try mimicking tones using different throat settings. You’ll notice:
- Creaky tones vibrate differently
- Stiff tones feel more vertical or squeezed
- Normal tones flow smoothly
Muscle memory is key — the ToneBox lets you visualise, feel, and train this difference.
